Today I am come with Gujarati dal which is reflecting the tradition of Gujarat. Gujarati dal is sweet, sour and spicy in taste and made from tur dal khata amachur powder with jaggery. Try this dal with fry rice. Dal and Rice are indispensable part of Gujarati thali.


Ingredients of Gujarati Dal Recipe

Tur dal: 1/2 Cup

Peanuts: fistful, raw

Tomato (chopped): 1

Jaggery (grated): 1 Tablespoon

Green chilies: 2

Ginger(minced): 1 Teaspoon

Red chilli powder: 1 Teaspoon

Turmeric powder: 1/4 Teaspoon

Lemon juice: 1 Teaspoon

Amchur powder: ½ Teaspoon

Tamarind paste: ¾ Teaspoon

Salt as per your taste

Fresh coriander leaves to garnish

Ingredients for Gujarati Dal Tadka

Oil: 1 Teaspoon

Mustard seeds: ½ Teaspoon

Cumin Seeds: ½ Teaspoon

Fenugreek seeds: ¼ Teaspoon

Asafoetida: ¼ Teaspoon

Red chilli: 1

Cinnamon stick: ½

Bay leaf: 1

Curry leaves: 1 spring

Method of How to make Gujarati Dal Recipe

Step 1: Wash tur dal and whistle 4 in pressure cooker.

Step 2: Mash dal using masher using 3 cup water.

Step 3: Add peanuts, turmeric powder, red chili powder, minced ginger, green chilies, chopped tomatoes, jaggery and salt.

Step 4: Now mix well and simmer for 15 minutes and keep string in between.

Step 5: Take liitle oil or ghee in pan, add mustard seeds, Add cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, red chilis, bay leaf, cinnamon stick. asafoetida and curry leaves and saute for a few seconds till the fenugreek seeds turns red and the cumin turns brown.

Step 6: Add lemon juice and red chilli powder and jaggery.

Step 7: Simmer for 5 minutes and put in serving bowl and serve with roti and rice.
